On 23rd Sept 2025, 12 dynamic teams from 6 colleges came together for the Agentic AI Hackathon with IBM Watsonx, building innovative AI agents using LangFlow, IBM Granite models, and IBM Cloud. Guided by mentors from IBM Volunteers and Edunet Foundation, students tackled real-world challenges across domains like healthcare, education, sustainability, and more. 🍀🤖 𝗜𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 We’re proud to announce that Digital Technology Skills is part of the new AI Factory Antenna in Ireland (AIF IRL-Antenna), a major EU-backed initiative designed to strengthen Europe’s AI capabilities and ensure access to world-class computing power, expertise, and training. The AI Factory Antennas are part of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), connecting national centres across Europe to make #AI and #supercomputing resources more accessible to innovators, researchers, and industry. The AIF IRL-Antenna, announced on 13th October 2025 by James Lawless | Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, is led by the ICHEC (Irish Centre for High-End Computing), with support from other national partners such as CeADAR Ireland, PorterShed, Dogpatch Labs, RDI Hub, Republic of Work, Advancing Innovation in Manufacturing (AIM) Centre, itag & itag Skillnet and Digital Technology Skills. The AIF IRL-Antenna has been awarded €10m (evenly co-funded by the EU and DFHERIS) to provide a range of AI-focused technical resources and services to the startup/SME, public sector and research ecosystem in Ireland. The successful bid was also endorsed by Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Enterprise Ireland and Research Ireland. During the last 1+MG Member States meeting in Denmark, we presented a technical demonstrator on how the European GDI technical infrastructure can support Federated analytics ( in the pathway to enable Federated Learning) today. This demonstrator showcases how, with current technology, Federated Processing can be enabled across borders, allowing for multi-country projects to access genomic and health data without requiring data movement. As the next step, we will focus on solving the identified gaps and running a similar technical demonstrator with real genomic and health data, and support Genome of Europe use cases, while working on recommendations to extend the infrastructure with the technical and governance component to support Federated Learning (training of AI and ML Models).
