Owning My Oversight: A Leadership Reflection and a New Year’s Goal As leaders, we often focus on what we’ve done right—but what about the things we’ve missed? It's year end so we're counting the increases to last year, looking at franchise growth, transaction increases and celebrating successes. On the other hand, I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t talked nearly enough about one critical aspect of our business: resale and transfer solutions for franchise brands. The truth is, resale programs aren’t just a "nice-to-have." They’re the backbone of sustainable franchise growth. They protect your brand, prevent closures, and create opportunities for franchisees to transition their businesses with confidence. Yet, for some reason, I’ve failed to make this a priority in my conversations. That’s on me. As we head into the new year, I’m setting a personal and professional goal: to start having meaningful conversations with franchise brands about how we can help them tackle resale challenges head-on. A resale program isn’t just about preventing closures; it’s about: ▶ Protecting your franchise legacy. ▶️ Supporting franchisees through their next chapter. ▶️ Ensuring brand continuity for years to come. I know this work can make a difference—because I’ve seen it firsthand. But I also know that change starts with me stepping up, sharing the message, connecting with the right people, and bringing leaders on our team to make a difference. That's why we're adding David McDougall to the We Sell Restaurants team to help us drive focus on this important part of our business. So here’s my ask: If you’re a franchise leader, or if resale and transfer solutions are challenges you’re facing, connect with me, Eric Gagnon, CFE, CBI or Dave. We want to hear your perspective and explore how we can tackle this together. This is the year to face what I’ve overlooked and turn it into something impactful. Here’s to growth, change, and making a real difference in 2024. #WeSellRestaurants #2025Resolutions #Leadership

Every great 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 starts with a clear vision, but sustainable growth? That’s built on strategic foresight and understanding every stakeholder's perspective. Here’s what I’ve discovered in 16+ years of leading and expanding franchise operations: Building a 𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 isn't just a strategic move; it’s an art grounded in consistency, trust, and precision in planning. Here's what I've learned: 🔹 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: It may sound old-fashioned, but this is a crucial step often overlooked. Approach it in two ways: • 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Focus on how profitability and operational capabilities are built and sustained at the franchisee level. • 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Consider the consumer lifecycle at the franchisee level and analyze key indicators for decision-making within the micro market they serve. 🔹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Ensure uniform experiences across all franchise units. Consistency drives trust. 🔹 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺: Offer training, marketing support, and operational guidance proactively. 🔹 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Leverage analytics to identify performance gaps and implement targeted strategies. 🔹 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: Treat franchisees as partners, fostering collaboration and long-term growth. 🔹 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Prioritize growth that brings long-term value and resilience. What strategies do you prioritize when building or expanding a franchise network? Determining if a franchise company has great leadership is key to evaluating whether the business is likely to succeed and provide value to franchisees. Strong leadership influences everything from brand reputation to franchisee support, innovation, and profitability. Here are some ways to determine if a franchise company has effective leadership: Start by researching the leadership team's track record. Look into their past achievements, industry experience, and how long they’ve been involved with the franchise. Leaders who have extensive experience in franchising, have successfully navigated challenges, or have a history of growing brands tend to be more capable of providing stable and effective guidance. Examine their ability to expand the franchise network, enter new markets, and maintain consistent brand value. Great leadership fosters open communication and transparency with franchisees. Evaluate how well the franchisor communicates vital information to its franchisees. A transparent franchise company will provide clear insights into fees, financial performance, and corporate decisions. If possible, attend franchise discovery days or meetings. Observe whether leaders are approachable, answer questions openly, and share both successes and challenges with potential franchisees. Trustworthy leadership is built on transparency and consistent communication. Want to learn more about assessing franchise leadership? Contact me. Great CEOs have one thing in common: vision. They don’t just manage the day-to-day—they see the big picture, anticipate challenges, and turn them into opportunities. When it comes to franchise resales, this vision is critical. Resales aren’t just an operational task; they’re a strategic move. A CEO with vision understands that every resale is a chance to: 💯 Protect the brand’s reputation by ensuring seamless transitions to capable, motivated owners. 💯 Drive net unit growth by keeping locations thriving, even during ownership changes. 💯 Strengthen franchisee relationships with a proven process that demonstrates the brand’s commitment to their success. Visionary CEOs don’t see resales as just a necessity—they see them as a powerful tool to stabilize and grow their brands. They align with the right partners, like We Sell Restaurants to create systems that work. Why? Because they know a brand is only as strong as its weakest unit, and resales are the key to turning potential pitfalls into growth opportunities. If you’re a CEO, ask yourself: Are you managing resales—or leading them with vision? #FranchiseLeadership #RestaurantResales #NetUnitGrowth #CEOInsights

Collaborating with individuals and businesses in your network presents new opportunities, increases revenue, and leads to greater creativity and knowledge sharing. This Forbes article sums it up nicely. Since stepping up into a business development role, the thing I have found the most rewarding is connecting and networking with other professionals who are passionate about achieving the best results for clients. It's about educating and supporting others in all industries to provide a better solution than you could have otherwise. How are you connecting with others and holistically supporting your clients? In the fast-paced world of franchise ownership, it’s easy to focus on what’s missing— bigger goals, more resources, higher profits. But what if the key to achieving more starts with appreciating what’s already there? At RISE for Work, we teach franchisees how to lead with gratitude, helping them see the value in their teams, their progress, and the opportunities they already have. Gratitude shifts the focus from scarcity to abundance. When franchisees adopt this mindset: Teams feel more valued and connected, reducing turnover. Employees become more motivated and engaged, driving better performance. Franchisees build stronger relationships with their teams, customers, and peers. By recognizing the strengths and contributions within their current teams, franchisees can unlock new levels of growth and success—not just for their locations but for the entire franchise network. Ready to see how gratitude can transform your business? Comment ""RISE"" or DM me to learn more about our one-day workshop designed to empower franchisees to lead with gratitude and inspire their teams. #LeadershipDevelopment #BusinessSuccess #FranchiseGrowth #EmployeeEngagement #LeadershipMatters #WorkplaceCulture #TeamLeadership #GratitudeAtWork #EmployeeAppreciation #LeadWithGratitude #GratefulLeadership #CultureOfGratitude #AppreciationMatters
