Chief AI Officer at eBay

Had a great time chatting with Fortune 's Jason Del Rey about the recent launch of our AI commerce agent. Combining the best of OpenAI 's generalized commercial LLMs and eBay's own internally built specialized LiLiuM LLMs, this is perhaps our most audacious undertaking in AI to-date. It's near impossible to overestimate the seismic shift that agentic systems will bring about.

But as usual, it will fail because it’ll be manipulated by how much the seller is paying for promoted listings. Ebay worked way better prior to promoted listings. People actually were able to find what they were looking for. Now the algorithm is so overwhelmed by how much garbage you guys feed it that the customers are pissed they can’t find what they searched for and they’re 100% right for being pissed. Nobody wants to be told what they’re looking for when they’re asking for something else. So let’s get back to basics. That’s when Ebay was great. It’s over manipulationed and things are thrown in your face that have zero to do with what you want and that is why you’re losing your customer base. It’s pretty simple math people.
