We are ecstatic to see that phase #ONE of the solarization project at Dock Street Park in Richmond, VA is complete. The solarization project aimed to remove invasive species without using harmful chemicals that could have leached into the James River. We are honored to have been apart of this project and are excited to see native plants, planted at Dock Street Park. Thank you to our friends at Friends of the James River Park and James River Park for organizing this fantastic initiative. Project Phase Complete: Solarization Delivers a Win for Native Plants ☀️ We've successfully wrapped the first phase of our invasive species management project at Dock Street Park! Since kicking off in June with foundational support from our friends at ONE , the solarization process is now complete. The soil is prepped and ready for planting with a native seed mix—a huge step in restoring this vital space. This success was a true partnership effort: Leadership: Friends of the James River Park Invasive Species Management Team Funding: Ocean Network Express North America Volunteers: Dedicated teams from Ocean Network Express North America, CarMax, and Dominion Payroll who helped install the specialized UV-rated plastic. We're already planning ahead! The solarization plastic will be stored and reapplied to a new area of Dock Street Park next summer to continue the eradication process. Thank you to our corporate partners and volunteers for demonstrating the power of collaboration in conservation.
