Engineered “natural killer” cells could help fight cancer!! A new study identifies genetic modifications that make these immune cells, known as CAR-NK cells, more effective at destroying cancer cells. One of the newest weapons that scientists have developed against cancer is a type of engineered immune cell known as CAR-NK (natural killer) cells. Similar to CAR-T cells, these cells can be programmed to attack cancer cells. IWMF continues to power a global research network, supporting 32 academic labs committed to transforming WM from an incurable disease to one that can be fully eradicated. One of our latest grants supports Dr. Constantine Mitsiades at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Dr. Mitsiades is applying a proven, high-impact strategy to WM: utilizing the Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR gene-editing tool to conduct detailed "gene screens." This methodology allows researchers to efficiently test thousands of cancer cells in parallel, identifying the specific genetic dependencies the cancer relies on to survive. By creating this first-ever blueprint of cancer's control switches, the team is laying the foundation for the next generation of highly targeted therapies. Dr. Mitsiades previously applied this strategy to successfully shape multiple myeloma clinical trials, demonstrating its significant potential for the WM community. This groundbreaking work is made possible by you. Thank you for powering research that transforms hope into reality. https://conta.cc/46ynaGh #CancerResearch #CRISPR #GeneEditing #DanaFarber
