One more sign: leadership message that AI is just another tool.

Really enjoyed this article, Kathleen and Ron. You nailed a key truth most organizations learn too late — AI success doesn’t start with the model, it starts with the data. I’ve seen so many projects stall because teams jump straight into building models before having solid data governance or even clear data ownership. The five foundations you outlined are spot-on, especially the focus on data pipelines and maturity models. One thing I’d add: being data-ready isn’t just a technical challenge, it’s a cultural one. It takes collaboration, patience, and a shared understanding of why data quality matters in the first place. Thanks for sharing such a practical perspective — this is the kind of guidance more organizations need before launching their “AI journey.”

Slide 4 and Slide 5 may well be impacting many organizations. There must be a business culture transformation and AI strategic adoption, deployment and day-to-day day-to-month metrics.

I’d say those are equally signs that the organization isn’t ready to start any project — not just an AI one.
