Our Director and Co-founder, Nick Hoare, has been featured in Supply Chain Briefing discussing the 'Implications of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for the Fulfilment Industry.' From 2025, UK producers (including importers, suppliers, and packers) will be responsible for covering the full costs of waste management, from collection and sorting through to recycling. This change also requires companies to capture and disclose detailed data on packaging type, material, format, function, and recyclability - raising the bar for accuracy and accountability across the supply chain. At Prolog Fulfilment, we’re already helping clients develop EPR-ready solutions that ensure compliance while supporting sustainability goals. Packaging is everywhere and so is packaging waste. Today, I’m heading to The Hague to record a podcast on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR). On my way there, I will no doubt pass plenty of plastic litter on the streets. Wondering how many generations will it take before we live in a world without plastic litter? Looking at the failed Global Plastics Summit this summer, one might fear it will take far too long before systemic change happens. We’ll need a lot more #WorldCleanupDays. But… meanwhile in Europe, the PPWR is being rolled out step by step, which is a serious move towards a world with less waste, by changing the design of packaging. The PPWR requires: - All packaging must be reusable or recyclable by 2030 - Recycled content will be mandatory - Single-use plastic packaging for fresh produce, condiments, and hotel toiletries will be banned - Extended Producer Responsibility will make every company accountable for the entire lifecycle of its packaging Packaging, once designed only for protection and convenience, will now have to be designed for circularity. Quite a challenge for retailers with global supply chains, fragmented data standards, and thousands of suppliers. So, at ImpactBuying we’re eager to help with advice, insights, data-collection and above all, data-verification. We see the PPWR as an important opportunity, to drive innovation and accelerate the shift towards a circular economy. To help retailers face this challenge, we’ve ‘unpacked’ the regulation in detail in our white paper on PPWR, explaining the definitions, requirements, timelines and business consequences. Translating the regulations into a practical roadmap inside our tools. Interested? Download the whitepaper here: https://lnkd.in/ewRSYFyR 🎙️ And as for the ANP Podcast I’m recording today, I’ll share it next week. Stay tuned!

UK businesses are receiving their first EPR invoices — and many are finding the costs higher than expected. With fees linked to recyclability, weight, and reporting accuracy, packaging choices have never mattered more. Switching from plastics to corrugated solutions, optimising for weight, or using mono-material packs can significantly cut costs while improving sustainability. Partnering with experts like Smurfit Westrock ensures packaging is compliant, efficient, and future-ready. https://lnkd.in/eUk2qNuY #SustainablePackaging #Recyclability #Packaging #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #RecycledMaterials #ResourceEfficiency #EPR #PackagingMachinery #Corrugated #Paper
