Deepdives on software engineering, tech careers and industry trends. Writing The Pragmatic Engineer, the #1 technology newsletter on Substack. Author of The Software Engineer's Guidebook.
I'm excited to publish The Tech Resume Inside Out: (probably) the most comprehensive guide on how to write a developer / engineering manager resume that represents you well. It's 215 pages of background, advice, examples, and real (but anonymized) resume case studies. I say probably the most comprehensive, as I did not write this alone. More than 25 tech recruiters and engineering managers across five continents and several tech companies gave feedback, corrections, and new ideas. While there is no "definite guide" on how to put a dev or EM resume together, this one tries to get close. The book is free for any dev without a job: just follow instructions in the website if you’re in this difficult position. COVID was what prompted me to write this book, my goal being to help those who were hit the hardest: people laid off. The book has been in beta for some time, with all beta revenue going towards STEM nonprofits: $2,150 went to HackYourFuture and $850 to Anamaki STEM Academy - the latter a choice of the book's editor, Mike Reeves-McMillan. You can grab your copy (or complimentary copy) here: https://thetechresume.com. The list of people helping with this project is too long for the post: I'll add them in the comments. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a reality!
