Africa investor, led by Dr. Hubert Danso, spearheaded a landmark initiative to publish the G20 Nature Investment Roadmap 2.0. Rebalance Earth, along with Sustainable Markets Initiative, were proud to support this important work, which sets out a practical pathway for investors and sovereigns to allocate 2–5% of portfolios to Nature by 2026, scaling to 5–10% by 2030. With inaction projected to cost $80 trillion globally by 2050, including $6.5 trillion in Africa, the Roadmap positions Nature as infrastructure; essential to resilience, returns and fiduciary duty. 🌍 Global demand for green investment is accelerating — and Africa alone will require an estimated USD 2.9 trillion by 2050, primarily in energy, transport, and carbon sinks. While clean energy investment on the continent has grown — from around USD 17 billion in 2019 to nearly USD 40 billion in 2024 (IEA) — the financing gap remains significant. I had the pleasure of meeting with Heike Harmgart , Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Gianpiero Nacci , Managing Director Climate Strategy at the EBRD , and Katja Kammerer Director Commissioning Parties from GIZ to explore how we can deepen the collaboration between Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. What unites us is a shared commitment to impact, a hands-on approach, and the belief that climate and development goals can only be achieved through strong, practical partnerships — with governments, the private sector, and local actors. The EBRD brings deep expertise in financing, infrastructure, and private sector development across its regions of operation. GIZ complements this with robust implementation capacity, a long-term country presence, and trusted networks in over 120 countries. Whether in Africa, Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, Central Asia, or the MENA region — the potential for joint impact is strong. Our shared goal: Turning ambition into action — through concrete, scalable partnerships that mobilize green investment and drive sustainable development in our partner countries. #EBRD #GIZ #GreenInvestment #ClimateFinance #GreenGrowth #Partnerships #SustainableDevelopment #GreenTech #GlobalGateway

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Emerging and Developing Countries Foreign Direct Investment aimed at long-term development in emerging nations is not just important, but a crucial factor for increasing the GDP of the country receiving the FDI. The funding of infrastructure projects in these countries are not just financial, but also have the potential to make a significant impact on their economic development. This week in round table discussions, I provided insights into the funding structure and the global landscape to two countries in Africa and one in the Caribbean. The infrastructure funding we discussed would lead to greater economic diversification of the nation, an increase in economic impact, and GDP growth for its citizens.
