🔥 What happens if biomass use for CDR is controlled? We explore that question in our ‘Divide to Deliver’ technical analysis: https://lnkd.in/en4p-txk In our core scenarios, biochar used 9 to 14% of available biomass feedstocks. When we applied a stricter biochar cap (max 8% per region), the change was impactful: 🔸 Less biochar means more DACCS is deployed earlier (from 2050). 🔸 Higher reliance on costlier tech drives up overall system costs. 🔸 Gross emissions cuts must be deeper to compensate. The lesson? Biomass allocation is critical. Without a clear framework for sustainable use across BECCS, biochar, energy, and food systems, Europe risks bottlenecks, higher costs, and missed targets. Central European Biomass Conference (CEBC) 2026   ⚡ From heating homes to fuelling industries: biomass plays a bigger role in daily life than many think! The Central European Biomass Conference (CEBC) will take place in Graz from 21 - 23 January 2026. It is the place where the hidden potential of bioenergy becomes visible. Every three years, more than 1,400 participants from over 50 countries come together. They explore how bioenergy can power low-carbon solutions in business, industry, and society. The programme covers many key areas: electricity, heat, cooling, gases, fuels, and chemicals. It also addresses digitalisation, hybrid systems, and the role of biomass in the circular economy. Formats at CEBC26 include expert lectures and panels, company presentations, excursions, networking opportunities, and the parallel "Häuslbauer" trade fair. 🌱 Excited to share our new publication titled “Techno-economic and thermodynamic analysis of biomass combustion for sustainable power generation”! In this study, we explored a lab-scale open-cycle biomass power plant using locally available fuels such as date seeds and olive cake. The research examines efficiency, emissions, and economic viability, highlighting the potential of biomass as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. ⚡ Our findings show that biomass can deliver cleaner combustion, reduced emissions, and competitive costs, making it a promising option for small-scale, off-grid energy applications. This work highlights both the environmental 🌍 and economic 💰 benefits of deploying biomass-based systems in regions with abundant agricultural residues.
