🚨 Kerala High Court cracks down on pedestrian safety! The Bench led by Justice Devan Ramachandran expressed deep concern over recurring accidents at zebra crossings, calling reckless vehicles “killing machines.” 🛑🚗 Despite repeated assurances, the Court observed that zebra crossings in major cities like Kochi remain poorly maintained or blocked, forcing pedestrians to navigate moving traffic. The Government argued that steps were being taken, but the Court emphasized that words are meaningless without action. The Bench directed the Inspector General (Traffic) and Secretary of PWD to personally intervene and ensure every major intersection has scientifically designed zebra crossings, proper traffic signals, and unobstructed pathways. ⚖️ The Court refused to accept budgetary excuses, stating that human life is paramount. Officials, including the Transport Commissioner, were ordered to appear for online interaction in the next hearing. This judgment highlights the Court’s focus on proactive governance, accountability, and the importance of prioritizing citizen safety over administrative delays. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) recently sealed Sahara Shaher, a 170-acre property in Gomti Nagar, citing alleged lease violations. The LMC claims the 30-year lease, which ended in 2024, was not honored, prompting cancellation of the lease and license agreements. Sahara India disputes these allegations, stating it invested over INR 2,480 crore, developed 87 residential and commercial buildings, and paid all dues including INR 17.58 crore in taxes. The company has moved the Allahabad High Court, challenging LMC’s actions, which they describe as arbitrary and unlawful. There is scope for CSR initiatives and partnerships to fund road safety programs, trauma response systems, or awareness campaigns, especially in identified high-risk states.
