A green that feels like the family camping trip of 1987. A Kodachrome red that tastes like tomato soup on a snowy day. That’s the nostalgia Amanda Russell, senior manager for color and print at REI Co-op, tapped into when creating the timeless palette: REI Archive Colors. Her team pored over every REI catalog since 1967, tracing the reds, blues, yellows and greens that have always felt like home in the outdoors, and like us. Love this beautiful palette of classic outdoor-gear color! I've always been a fan of the rich rust-brown tones so emblematic of the ’70s. Also the rarer purples that made subtle appearances throughout the decades since. ❤️💚💙💛🤎💜
Love this look back at REI’s heritage — a perfect blend of creativity and purpose. Inspired by how the co-op keeps its values alive in every detail. 🌿
This is so cool. I love how REI looks back into its heritage to inform and inspire its designs for today.
I worked at REI for a few years and one day a customer gifted me a stack of old REI catalogs. I think I just saw some in this reel. So cool.
Love this. Great time to reimagine the classics.
Need Salehe Bembury to design the REI employee vest

3dWith its strong brand and community leadership, REI continues to have such a positive influence. I’ve always loved the traditional Northwest color palette, but recently I discovered a bright red with a soft, warm hand feel—just like the one in your post. These brighter colors bring such happiness to the fall and winter seasons. It would be wonderful to see more joyful, vibrant colors brought to the outdoor community!
