This straightforward and scalable solution not only makes it easier to green a city, but also does so in a financially sustainable way — where the total cost of ownership of sensor-based monitoring is lower than replacing trees lost due to undetected soil issues. 🌳 Temporary Trees, Lasting Impact! As part of the city’s “Grünes Gastspiel” pilot project, around 50 trees were temporarily placed along Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich. In Cool Neighbourhoods, citizen science means putting the power of data collection into the hands of residents. 👥 Through simple tools such as temperature sensors and short surveys, citizens help Cool Neighbourhoods measure how heat affects their neighbourhoods — both outdoors and inside homes. This real-world data helps local authorities better understand the urban heat island effect and identify where greening or shading measures will have the biggest impact. 🌡️ Citizen science builds awareness, trust, and collaboration between communities and municipalities. Over time, it leads to smarter climate action and more liveable neighbourhoods for everyone.
