⚡Skills for the future – RES backs 27 more UHI students As part of RES’ three-year £60,000 collaboration with the UHI - an integrated university in Scotland - 27 students from a range of academic backgrounds have received grants of up to £1,000 from the Student Development Fund to support their studies. This is the second year that RES has supported the fund, which aims to make development opportunities accessible to every student at UHI, regardless of financial or geographical barriers. Three students from the 2025 funding round include Glen Dickson, April Sutherland and Moumita Kar, each representing disciplines that contribute to health, culture, and tourism across the Highlands and Islands. This reflects RES’ broader approach of investing in communities to help create lasting benefits beyond renewable energy. Late last week, the Government of Alberta released the report produced by the Expert Panel on Post-Secondary Institution Funding and Alberta’s Competitiveness. Among this highly-anticipated report’s recommendations is a proposed funding framework that would consist of three components: enrolment, performance, and base funding. Meanwhile, in Québec, the Cégep de l’Outaouais has announced its pursuit of a regional status designation. This is a unique status in Québec’s general and vocational colleges act that is only held by two other institutions in the province: Cégep régional de Lanaudière (also known as Cégep de Lanaudière) and Cégep régional Champlain. For Cégep de l’Outaouais, one of the benefits of this status comes in the form of funding: The cégep—which is reportedly facing a projected deficit—could be eligible for additional funding of over $800K per year. The Namibian College of Open Learning (Namcol) experienced a decline in tertiary and vocational programme enrolments during the 2023/2024 financial year. This was mainly due to the discontinuation of certain courses and the end of the 2023 relief scheme that had allowed students to enrol without full upfront payment. Despite this drop, Namcol recorded a solid financial recovery and steady growth in secondary education enrolment. https://lnkd.in/dZ9ZXh2y
