UK consultation begins on Rolls Royce SMR design The UK government has launched a public consultation on the Nuclear Industry Association’s application to approve the Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor design, marking a key step toward deployment. It is the first time a UK reactor design has entered the justification process, a legal requirement before any new nuclear technology can operate. The consultation, open until 1 December, invites views on whether the Rolls-Royce SMR offers sufficient benefits to justify its use in the UK. The NIA says the reactor’s advantages, including clean and reliable power with strong safety systems, outweigh any risks. The 470-megawatt pressurised water reactor is designed to run for at least 60 years, with most of each unit built in factories before site assembly to cut costs and construction time. Earlier this year, Rolls Royce SMR was selected as the UK’s preferred small reactor technology, with contracts and site decisions expected later this year and grid connection targeted for the mid-2030s. #Nuclear #RollsRoyceSMR #Nuclearnews #UKNuclear
Get a move on guys 😉
It makes me proud that all the pictures used in the media of RR SMR’s kit is built in part by us in AMRC’s facility
If I remember correctly this was 'on the drawing board' back in the very early 2000's when I was at Power Gen unit at Ansty, Coventry facility.
Great to see progress on clean energy options. Exciting times ahead for innovation. 🌱
B-Z on all the work done so far, fingers crossed for getting the final shove across the line. 🙏
