The European Commission has just published a comprehensive new resource — the AI Act Service Desk FAQ. This document brings together insights from over 100 real questions raised by organizations, lawyers, and policymakers during the AI Pact webinars — now answered directly by the Commission. Why is this such an important release? Because it’s not just another summary — it’s an official, evolving guide that helps interpret how the EU AI Act will actually work in practice. Here’s what you’ll find inside: 🔹 Clarity on which systems are in scope (and which aren’t) 🔹 A full rollout timeline through 2027 🔹 Clear definitions of AI systems, AI models, and general-purpose AI 🔹 Details on obligations for high-risk AI and prohibited practices 🔹 Guidance on the General-Purpose AI Code of Practice and regulatory sandboxes 🔹 Even technical criteria — like the FLOP thresholds (10²³ and 10²⁵) used to flag models that pose systemic risk Published by the European Commission’s AI Act Service Desk, this FAQ is now one of the most credible and practical interpretative sources for understanding the law. If your work touches AI governance, compliance, or risk — this one’s worth bookmarking. #EUAIAct #AICompliance #AIGovernance #ResponsibleAI #TechPolicy

If you work on AI Act compliance (or just need to stay in the loop) and haven’t explored the AI Act Service Desk resources yet - you really should. Beyond trying out tools like the Compliance Checker and AI Act Explorer, it’s definitely worth visiting one of the less-highlighted sections: the FAQ. Some of the questions and answers are quite basic, but others provide genuinely useful insights into topics that aren’t directly regulated under the AI Act. For example: ❓ How do AI agents fit within the General Purpose AI framework under the AI Act? ❓ Is an "AI Officer" or governance board recommended within companies? That said, even the answers to the more basic questions about the AI Act may be quite helpful - for two reasons: ▶️ First, they point to different resources on the AI Act already created by the European Commission, making the FAQ a great interactive hub for finding official information. ▶️ Second, the explanations break down AI Act concepts and requirements in a clear, concise way. It’s an excellent go-to resource whenever you need to briefly and simply explain issues such as which types of AI systems are regulated or what obligations correspond to different risk levels. The list of questions isn’t long yet, but it’s expected to be updated regularly - something to look forward to. #AIAct #AIActServiceDesk

Serious AI incidents: new EU draft guidance & reporting template The European Commission has just published draft guidance and a reporting template for serious AI incidents under Article 73 of the AI Act. From August 2026, providers of high-risk AI systems will be legally required to report such incidents to national authorities. The idea is simple but ambitious: 🔹 detect risks early 🔹 ensure accountability 🔹 enable swift responses 🔹 strengthen public trust in AI What stands out is that the Commission is making these materials available now, well before the rules take effect. This gives providers time to prepare, and it signals how important transparency and incident reporting will become in Europe’s AI landscape. The draft guidance is practical: it clarifies definitions, provides examples, and explains how the AI Act interacts with existing legal obligations. It also ties into international initiatives like the OECD’s AI Incidents Monitor and Common Reporting Framework, showing that this isn’t just a European conversation, but a global one. Stakeholders can provide feedback and real-world examples until 7 November. Incident reporting in AI will shape how much society trusts these technologies. But the balance will be delicate. Too much reporting could overwhelm authorities and companies, while too little risks missing systemic harms. What do you think, will mandatory reporting build confidence in AI, or will it become another layer of bureaucracy? Want to participate in the consultation? The UK government’s exciting new AI Exemplar programme raises an important question: What does this mean for the Service Standard that has defined digital government for over a decade? AI introduces new characteristics — unpredictability, bias risks, accountability gaps — that the current framework was never built to handle. Without adapting how we assess and govern AI-enabled public services, exemplars risk being clever pilots that never shift the system. Callum Bates explores how the Service Standard might evolve for an AI age: embedding transparency, auditability, fairness, and citizen-centred outcomes at the heart of public service design. You already know that today the EC dropped two gems under the AI Act. 📄 Document #1 – Draft Guidance A friendly read: definitions, clarifications, practical examples. Think of it as the legal “warm-up set” before the real workout. 📄 Document #2 – Incident Reporting Template Now this one’s for the bold and the brave. The kind of people who build (and run) high-risk AI systems and then have to report when things go sideways. Not for the faint-hearted — definitely a “dangerous boys” document. Both are part of the upcoming serious incident reporting duties (Article 73 AI Act), binding from August 2026. But you can already try them on and share feedback until 7 November 2025. Caution: Reading document #2 without coffee may result in regulatory headaches. Prost.
