Did you know that the construction and operation of buildings account for 1/3 of global energy related emissions? Buildings generate emissions in lots of different ways. Materials like steel and concrete are carbon intensive and so is construction. Today many buildings around fossil fuels for heating and cooking and when you switch the lights on, the energy might have been generated by burning fossil fuels off site. In order to tackle climate change, we have to talk about buildings. There are already solutions to cut the emissions from buildings. We can make buildings more energy efficient which also cuts energy bills and fossil fuel. Balances can be replaced with electric ones powered by renewable energy. But to do this, we need investors to step up. Institutional investors buy, sell and develop real estate, often using an investment manager to make investments on their behalf. If you're watching this in a city office, a cafe or even at home, there's a chance it's owned by an institutional investor.
