Root! Root! Root for the home team! The Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) has awarded Wayne County Michigan's Hamtramck Stadium a 2025 Building Award -- an extra special honor given that May is Historic Preservation Month. The award is presented to outstanding rehabilitation projects that have made a significant contribution to the preservation of Michigan’s heritage. Originally built in 1930 for the Detroit Stars baseball team and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2012, the team worked tirelessly to recreate a functioning ballpark that celebrates the Negro Leagues' accomplishments while preserving the historical integrity of the stadium. The team celebrated the award at the 2025 MHPN Annual Statewide Historic Preservation Conference on May 16th. Please join us in congratulating the many teammates, agencies and organizations that made this project possible!
