It was an exciting and proud moment for all of us at Snowy Hydro, as we opened our very first Yarning Circle in Cooma ❤️ 🖤 💛 A Yarning Circle is a powerful, ancient practice that brings people together to communicate without judgement and with equality. It's a space built on trust and deep respect, allowing every single person to share their stories, wisdom, and ideas freely. Through consultation with local First Nations stakeholders, construction of our Yarning Circle has incorporated items of cultural significance. It features stone from Island Bend, offering a continuous connection to the original Snowy Hydro Scheme and Ngarigo Country. Artwork has been designed by a Ngarigo man and interpretative signage shares the Ngarigo story. We've also planted native flora, including edible plants. We were privileged to be joined by Ngarigo Elders to oversee the cleansing of the space with a smoking ceremony, and lucky enough to experience a special performance from the Gulaga Dancers, a nationally recognised dance troupe who continue the strong Djiringanj tradition of honouring the land and nature through dance and artistic connection. The Yarning Circle is available for Snowy's people and members of the community to come together to connect, share knowledge and engage with each other. It will also be a space for cultural education, performances and student engagement. It's been a labour of love from the team, and moments like this have made it all worth it. If you would like to see Snowy's new Yarning Circle, you can find it next to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre in Cooma. #SnowyHydro #SnowyMountains #YarningCircle #FirstNations

6dIt was a pleasure to attend and a lovely ceremony. I love the meaning behind the new artwork and can’t wait to find an opportunity to use the yarning circle.
