🔥⚡Fire Prevention Week Starts Today Fire Prevention Week 2025 runs from October 5 to October 11, spotlighting the theme “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” This year’s focus reflects a growing concern around the safe use and storage of rechargeable batteries found in everyday items, from smartphones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools. The campaign encourages households to learn how to prevent overheating, avoid improper charging practices, and recognize warning signs of battery failure. Fire departments across Canada are using this week to host educational events, share safety tips, and promote simple actions like checking smoke alarms and planning escape routes. The goal is clear: empower people with knowledge that could save lives. Fire Prevention Week isn’t just about awareness; it’s about action. A few minutes spent checking your smoke and CO alarms, replacing expired batteries, or learning how to safely dispose of damaged devices can make all the difference. It’s a reminder that fire safety starts at home, and everyone has a role to play. #chargedforlife #savedbythebeep #firesafety #smokealarmssavelives #TestYourSmokeAlarm

This year’s Fire Prevention Week is focused on something many of us use every day without much thought: lithium-ion batteries. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and scooters, these batteries keep life moving. But, if they are misused, damaged or overcharged, they can overheat and catch fire. The National Fire Protection Association’s theme this year is ‘CHARGE into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.’ The campaign encourages safe charging and storage habits so families can reduce fire risks in their homes. Simple tips to stay safe this year: ✅ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface and unplug them once they are fully charged ✅ Only use chargers recommended by the manufacturer ✅ Keep spare batteries out of extreme heat or cold and recycle them properly ✅ Check battery-powered devices often for damage such as swelling or punctures ✅ Never discard batteries, chargers or battery-powered devices in regular trash bins Visit CRgov.com/FirePrevention for Fire Prevention Week activities and more information.
