Stegra launches €975m funding round to complete hydrogen-based steel plant. By Edward Laity Stegra has launched a financing round to raise around €975m ($1.07bn) to complete the construction of its green hydrogen-based steel plant in Boden, Sweden. The Swedish company announced today (October 13) that the proceeds from the round are expected to represent up to 15% of its total project funding. Last year, Stegra secured up to €6.5bn ($$7.15bn) to develop the plant. JPRESSWOOD, a company within the TMV Capital group, has begun construction on its production facility in the Marijampolė region. The fully automated plant will manufacture pressed pallet blocks from wood industry waste. JPRESSWOOD is expected to create around 150 jobs once operational in 2027. The project has been granted large-scale investment status by the Ministry of the Economy and Innovation and is co-funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. The broad funding challenges of green steel. By Dominic Ellis Green steel financing is back in the spotlight after Swedish company Stegra announced a new financing round for the construction of its large-scale plant in Boden. In a statement, the firm (formerly H2 Green Steel) said the €975m funding will cover ‘higher project costs and secure a financial buffer’. The round will comprise a mix of equity, debt, outsourcing, and strategic partnerships. A comment was also directed to Brussels, claiming offset state grants ‘were not fulfilled’ despite approval from the EU Commission. Current Board Director Shaun Kingsbury is appointed new Chairman of the Board replacing Harald Mix, as part of the strategic changes.
