That's news to me when I keep seeing social media delusions caused by that cursed tool quite often and plenty of stories of people getting emotionally destroyed by it. Sounds to me like the accountability risk wasn't big enough to justify keeping any safety features.
From what I’ve been reading, they have NOT sufficiently made GPTs safe for mental well-being.
