Throughout my ten years as a teacher and instructional coach, I encountered the same challenge repeatedly: students who believed they “just aren’t math people.” But this belief isn’t innate; it’s taught. For decades, we’ve taught math as a set of rigid procedures to memorize -- instead of as a way to make sense of the world. It was the culmination of experiences like that which drove me to step outside the school system. In an AI-driven world, the ability to compute is a commodity, but the distinctly human skills of curiosity, creativity, reasoning, and flexible thinking are more critical than ever. ✨That’s why we’re building Simili: a multimodal platform where children make sense of math through dialogue, as our AI uses scaffolded inquiry to guide them from curiosity to true conceptual understanding. When we began curating EDUTHON 5.0, our theme, “The Next of Education: Where AI Meets Humanity,” was both a challenge and an invitation. It asked us to confront a reality that education leaders across the country are grappling with: how do we embrace technological advancements without losing sight of the human values at the heart of learning? Over the course of the summit, through panel discussions, fireside chats, and masterclasses, a key takeaway that emerged was that education must be as much about equity and empathy as it is about efficiency and innovation. We were reminded of the importance of ensuring that schools of every scale and region move forward into the future, together. Roshan Abbas showed us that creativity, storytelling, and simple acts of connection, like calling your parents every day, can sometimes be the most profound habits that take us forward. Our panelists debated how AI might transform classrooms, but they also emphasized the irreplaceable role of the teacher as a guide and mentor. For me, the greatest takeaway was this: the future of education cannot be designed in isolation. It is, by its very nature, collaborative. It is built when educators, innovators, and policymakers sit together, listen deeply, and co-create solutions that balance progress with purpose. We saw collaborations take shape right at the EDUTHON stage, reminding us of the power of such platforms. EDUTHON proved that when bright minds come together with sincerity, the very realm of possibility widens. At TRINITi, this belief will continue to guide us as we design experiences that bring learning, creativity, and innovation closer together. I had the honor of keynoting Brightpoint Community College’s Founder’s Day Celebration today. What a moment to witness an institution choosing to lead. While other organizations are debating what to do with AI, Brightpoint, under the visionary leadership of Dr. William Fiege, Susan Grinnan, and Gabriel Olmstead, is forging the path. It’s been a privilege getting to know the team and witnessing their commitment to preparing the next generation. I covered a lot, but one of my favorite points is that our greatest need in this generation (in all generations) is improved critical thinking. That's not opinion; it's a fact backed by data. Data also proves that the drop in critical thinking skills predates gen AI and COVID. And here's my take: While others are saying AI is rotting our brains, I believe we can reverse that downward trend *with* AI. When set up intentionally and used strategically, AI can coach students (and adults) to think deeper, question harder, and grow stronger. Packed room. Two campuses represented. Faculty and staff who know that the future belongs to those who build it, not those who debate it. This is what trailblazing (and nimbleness!) looks like in 2025.
