Recent research highlights the potential for electric vehicles (EVs) to deliver significant environmental and economic benefits through smart charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies. By strategically charging and discharging EVs in alignment with renewable energy availability, emissions can be reduced beyond those generated during charging, supporting public health and climate goals. Additionally, V2G enables drivers to sell stored energy back to the grid, offsetting costs and incentivizing further renewable energy development. This integrated approach could help decarbonize the broader power system and optimize the use of clean energy resources.

Large-scale #energystorage is crucial to the #energytransition as #renewables scale up. Currently there's +1,700 TWh of Energy discharged through batteries, meaning 2 GT of abatement potential. BESS is just one of nine #energytransition technologies that together could abate 28 GT of emissions, more than half of annual greenhouse gas emissions, while also supporting other #energy system objectives of energy security, energy access, and industrial competitiveness. 80% of these emission reductions would also directly promote #energy security. Renewable energy keeps breaking records, but the next challenge is integration. According to a new 2025 report, global renewable capacity additions are expected to surpass 600 GW this year, yet experts warn that grid limitations and storage bottlenecks could slow the real impact. Working in energy R&D, I see this shift every day. Generation is no longer the main problem — storage, flexibility, and smart systems are. The real frontier is how we make renewable power more reliable, adaptive, and equitable. What’s exciting is that innovation is catching up. From hybrid battery chemistries to AI-powered grid forecasting, the pieces are slowly connecting. Curious what others in the field think — which breakthrough do you believe will define 2025 for clean energy? #RenewableEnergy #CleanTech #EnergyStorage #Sustainability #Innovation https://lnkd.in/dnTi7T6V
