💡 “If you’re diversified across a failing system — you still fail.” In this clip from the Future of Finance podcast, William Burckart, Co-Founder and CEO of TIIP - The Investment Integration Project, explains what system-level investing really means — and how it goes beyond ESG and impact investing. System-level investing is about protecting and shaping the systems — like climate stability, fair labor markets, and healthy democracies — that long-term investors depend on. A few ideas that stuck with me after my conversation with John Graham from CPP Investments | Investissements RPC: 1. "The breadth of the mandate is something that’s really important. Part of the value added is taking advantage of that breadth." 2. "Every asset class will have its moment in the sun. Every geography will have its moment in the sun. It’ll also have its moment in the shade." 3. "We can get beta from screens in Toronto. We need alpha, we open the offices around the world to get alpha." 4. "Nothing sharpens the mind like compensation." 5. "Diversification is an act of humility." 6. "We seek value, not values. We don’t do concessionary capital. We are about returns." 7. "The world is going through an energy addition, not necessarily an energy transition." 8. "Technology can change the world and still be overvalued."
