A thing you might not know about community foundations (I know I didn’t before I worked here): many donors set up funds that are restricted for use on specific topics. In this case, The Chicago Community Trust had multiple funds that must be directed to arts & culture. Iona Calhoun-Battiste and team set to work designing how best to support arts & culture in ways that amplifies economic investment in communities that need it. We’re excited to see what initiatives this sparks or strengthens; please see below for more info.
We're thrilled to announce an amazing opportunity: Arts & Culture for Community Wealth, a new funding initiative from The Chicago Community Trust Collective Power strategy! Our team has worked incredibly hard to curate a thoughtful approach that recognizes the vital role of arts and culture as powerful catalysts for building individual and community wealth. We believe in the transformative power of creativity to drive economic opportunity, activate public spaces, and deeply engage residents, particularly in communities that have been historically underinvested. This is more than just funding; it's a call for innovative and emerging ideas that leverage the cross-section of arts, culture, and community wealth building. We're looking for projects in late planning stages with established partnerships that are ready to make a real impact. If you have a project that engages residents, activates public spaces, and contributes to economic vitality, we want to hear from you! We especially encourage proposals from cultural institutions, public art organizations, art collaboratives, and Community Development Corporations. Ready to bring your innovative vision to life?
