Here's another edition of Breakthrough Perspectives, where we highlight the human element, strategic approach, and innovative spirit ICR Healthcare represents! Ben Shannon, Senior Vice President, brings 15+ years of experience in healthcare communications, public affairs, and health policy with roles in government, advocacy, and biopharma. With federal cancer research funding falling sharply, and NIH seeing roughly $2.7 billion less in the first three months of 2025 versus 2024, we asked him: "How can strategic communications help cancer research programs keep moving in uncertain times?” 💬"The organizations that keep cancer research moving are the ones that translate Washington chaos into what it actually means for patients—and then fight for the specific fixes that keep labs open and breakthroughs coming." Ben explores this topic in greater depth in our latest blog. Great 𝐖𝐄𝐎 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 (𝐂𝐑𝐂) 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 session in Berlin — bringing together 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 (𝐒𝐂) and 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 (𝐄𝐖𝐆). Compelling evidence from the 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐕 study was presented, reinforcing the value of organized screening programs and showing that 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Key challenges were discussed ahead: -Increasing participation and coverage rates. -Enhancing program capabilities to effectively target key age groups. -Optimizing resource allocation to improve cost-effectiveness. The 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 also shared valuable insights and evaluations on age ranges and test-to-test recommendations for CRC screening. It is clear that 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 in addressing these challenges — strengthening screening programs, increasing participation rates, and improving efficiency and sustainability across Member States. Innovation should be seen as a 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐭 that enables health systems to achieve shared strategic objectives such as 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Integrating innovation into public health strategies — from diagnostics to data and digital tools — will be essential to build stronger, more preventive, and future-ready colorectal cancer screening programs across Europe. Today, I had the opportunity to speak at the Warrington Rotary Club in PA (https://lnkd.in/eCsBJCJS). I discussed how Premier Inc. Applied Sciences collaborate with life sciences companies to turn data into actionable evidence that drives innovation. Our efforts are helping accelerate research and generate real-world evidence (RWE) in Alzheimer’s disease studies. A key initiative, the TRAILBLAZER-REAL US Study, a collaborative partnership with Eli Lilly and Company seeks to understand how treatment for Alzheimer’s disease work in everyday care settings for both patients and their care partners. By enrolling participants from across the country, this study aims to produce RWE that will enhance early detection, diagnosis, and overall care for individuals and their care partners affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
