My latest blog for Lichfields UK reflects on my key takeaways from the BPF's Sustainability Conference. The conference was a powerful reminder that, despite wider political and economic uncertainty, momentum around sustainability in the real estate sector is being maintained. 

Why Sustainability Matters in 2025 and why HaaaWoo In 2025, sustainability is no longer a choice it’s a necessity. With global challenges like climate change, rising energy demands, food security, and water scarcity, the pressure on governments and companies to adopt sustainable practices is at its peak. For regions like Dubai and the Middle East, the importance is even greater: These countries face extreme climate conditions, making efficient use of water and energy vital. Economic diversification beyond oil pushes them toward green technologies, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development. Cities like Dubai are aiming to become global sustainability leaders, with projects in smart mobility, green buildings, and waste-to-energy systems. Sustainability ensures not only environmental balance but also economic resilience and social well-being. Countries that embed it deeply into policy and business will be the ones thriving in the decades ahead.

🌿 Today we published our third sustainability report. 📊 Key finding: Due to intensive travel during the Olympic Games and the 2024 European Football Championship, the dpa group's overall carbon footprint has increased. At the same time, however, energy consumption for heating and commuting has been reduced. 🗣️ dpa CEO Peter Kropsch: ‘It is our job to keep an eye on the long-term development of emissions and reduce them in the coming years. Our current report shows that we, as a media company, are aware of our social responsibility. Even though dpa is not yet required to report, we want to lead the way on sustainability.’ 🌍 This report refers to the business activities of the dpa group in Germany. The approximately 80 locations abroad are not included in the analysis. We have based our report on the EU directives CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards).
