Ideal vs. Real Life The AMR Reality Check When we design products, we dream in models, simulations, and perfect specs. But the real test begins when the robot leaves the lab and enters a living, breathing factory floor. Here’s how it really plays out 1. Robots Ideal life: Perfect digital twins, 100% reliable sensors. Real life: Sensor drift, dust on lenses, wheel wear, and unexpected Wi-Fi dead zones. 2. Environment Ideal life: Static, clean, perfectly mapped warehouse. Real life: Forklifts cutting across paths, pallets parked in wrong aisles, and “temporary” workstations that somehow become permanent. 3. Integration Ideal life: “We’ll use a standard API” → seamless WMS connection. Real life: customer B uses a custom REST API, customer A still runs on TCP/IP sockets, and customer C’s API docs haven’t been updated since 2017. 4. Deployment Success Ideal life: Hit target throughput on Day 1. Real life: Reach it after six weeks of tuning, three vendors in debug sessions, and convincing the floor manager to trust the system.
