Accius, PhD, NACD.DC, our colleagues at CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, along with a tight knit group of transformative national leaders in New York City to launch the action-oriented Leadership Council for Healthier Communities (LCHC), a trusted space where leaders from corporate, nonprofit, and community sectors come together to remove barriers, drive solutions, and create lasting impact. I’m thrilled to have HealthByDesign and the Indiana Public Health Association at the table as inaugural members because we need you with us! We are here to lead a Public Health Renaissance! Who it is for: Visionary executives and innovators committed to advancing community health. Why it matters: Most approaches to health are fragmented. As we celebrate Biosafety and Biosecurity Month, we’re highlighting the importance of leadership in keeping our laboratory environments safe. APHRC’s Executive Director, Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi, joined the TEATIME conversation hosted by the International Program in Public Health Leadership (IPPHL) yesterday, where she reflected on African leadership in research, policy engagement, and the future of global health. Here are highlights from her conversation: 1️⃣ On African leadership in research; “African scientists produce only 2–3% of global scientific papers, yet we make up 17% of the world’s population. We cannot shy away from this challenge; we must shape our own agenda.” 2️⃣ On engagement beyond institutions; “Your influence goes beyond your institution; you’re part of the African ecosystem. We need more leaders who see themselves as continental voices, not just organizational ones.” 3️⃣ On translating evidence into action; “Problems don’t follow grant cycles. For research to matter, we must go beyond projects to sustained engagement with governments, regional bodies, and communities.” 4️⃣ On her biggest fear; “Sometimes I look fearless, but I have a lot of fears.
