BIOFIN - Biodiversity Finance Initiative, funded by European Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium and partners, is supporting over 130 countries to design and implement national #BiodiversityFinance Plans—turning strategies into real results. It has catalyzed over $1.6 billion in biodiversity finance in 41 counties since 2018. UNDP's BIOFIN has pioneered a Finance for Finance model which uses valuable #ODA funding as targeted seed capital to unlock domestic public and private finance for nature at scale. It’s not just funding #nature—it’s building the systems that can generate #sustainable financing for nature. https://lnkd.in/ddf86B6U #GlobalGateway UNDP Nature Onno van den Heuvel

How to Support Traditional Knowledge Economically Traditional knowledge isn’t just heritageit’s an economic asset. Across Africa, rural communities have preserved sustainable ways of farming, building, healing, and conserving—without formal recognition or reward. But what if policies treated indigenous wisdom as viable intellectual capital? At SustainaFocus, we believe supporting traditional knowledge means: ✅ Creating local markets for indigenous crops and eco-products ✅ Integrating traditional practices into national education & training ✅ Funding community-led sustainability projects ✅ Protecting intellectual property rights of indigenous innovations Governments, NGOs, and institutions have a critical role to play. It’s time to shift from romanticizing culture to investing in it. 🎯 When policy meets local knowledge, we create jobs, restore ecosystems, and preserve identity all at once. 🌿 The future of climate resilience and green economies may already be in the hands of our elders, artisans, and farmers. They just need the platform and support. Let’s ensure policy uplifts, protects, and scales their work. #SustainaFocus #TraditionalKnowledge #PolicyInnovation #IndigenousEconomies #ClimateResilience #SustainableAfrica #LocalVoicesGlobalImpact

“Viet Nam is among the world’s 16 most biodiversity-rich countries. Protecting this natural wealth is essential—not only for ecosystems, but also for food security, jobs, and resilience.” At the 11th Eurasia-Pacific Regional Dialogue in Da Nang, Viet Nam, Ramla Khalidi, UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam, highlighted the strength of BIOFIN’s systems approach—aligning policies, incentives, and markets so that economies grow by protecting nature, not by depleting it. This vision shows how biodiversity finance can secure both people’s well-being and the planet’s future.

🌍 The European Commission defends its roadmap: nature credits are now! ‘Nature is more than a market, but giving economic value to actions that benefit nature will help integrate them into the human economy.’ ✅ The reality? According to the European Environment Agency, 80% of European nature is in ‘poor or very poor condition’, with a funding gap of EUR 65 billion per year. Public funding, although essential, will not cover all needs. 👉 The solution exists: the OBC and its 30 members have launched national pilot projects to demonstrate that a credible nature credit market is possible. 🔑 The evidence: The EY executive summary (https://lnkd.in/etFTPbsR) shows that the OBC approach can mobilise large-scale private financing, creating a virtuous circle between: - High-quality certified field actions - Alignment with national biodiversity strategies - Complete transparency (public-private contracts) - Credible corporate claims (anti-greenwashing) Pilot projects are underway in nine countries to test these mechanisms in practice: France, Gabon, Peru, Ivory Coast, Togo, Chad, India, and Cameroon, with the ambition to remain fully aligned with the EU roadmap and to share all pilot results with the DG Environment, ensuring we achieve our common objective of creating value for people who implement the best practices for biodiversity across all ecosystems, from forests to agriculture. 🎯 The message is clear: transforming nature conservation into an economic opportunity is possible. It is even essential to achieving the Kunming-Montreal targets. #BiodiversityEurope #NatureCredits #OBC #Transition
