United Nations’ Post

A new UN report reveals a powerful link between poverty and the climate crisis. Nearly 80% of the world’s poor —887 million people— are directly exposed to extreme heat, flooding, drought or air pollution, underlining the urgent need for global action. The report offers fresh evidence on how the climate crisis is reshaping global poverty. More from UNDP: https://lnkd.in/dBNTvbDc

People began living in climate hazard regions because of OVERPOPULATION, not bcz climate crises is spreading

Western powers have shaped global poverty through interventions, sanctions, and resource extraction. Over 250 U.S.-led interventions since WWII and sanctions affecting 1/3 of the world’s population have destabilized economies and blocked access to essentials. Resource-rich regions are exploited, leaving ecosystems degraded and communities impoverished. Over 50 countries now manipulate weather without oversight, risking further harm to vulnerable areas. The UN reports 80% of the poor live in climate hazard zones—but fails to name the system that put them there. Poverty isn’t accidental—it’s engineered through neocolonial control masked as policy.

A stark reminder that climate change and poverty are deeply intertwined. Addressing the climate crisis isn’t just an environmental issue — it’s central to reducing vulnerability and protecting the most marginalized communities

When nearly 80% of the world’s poor face direct exposure to climate shocks, development policy must integrate climate resilience as a core anti-poverty strategy, not a parallel agenda.

This is a truly shocking statistic. It shows how deeply linked climate change and inequality are. Those who contribute least to the crisis suffer the most.

In that case, what actions are proposed from taking them out of this situation? Has EWS setting up plan duly considered this issue? Thank you UN for sharing.

Now that climate change was termed as "hoax". What else do we have in mind as a long term goal? Alternatives like ecosystem restoration like planting trees that are traditionally known to assist in carbon adsorption, use of biosolutions in farming, change in daily routines; extreme heat has adverse effects on the mind in general, it is a catalyst to extremism in places without proper law and order.
