On the road again: our Hackathon Tour keeps gowing ! Earlier this year, we kicked off an internal Hackathon Tour across our main Tech hubs. Since the summer break, the tour has already passed through Lyon and Nantes and we’re now getting ready for Nice and Warsaw. And to give you a glimpse of the atmosphere, here’s the video from our Nantes edition 🎬 Each city brings its own energy, its own way of mixing tech and GenAI to bring ideas to life. Same framework but completely different outcomes every time and that’s the power of these hackathons. The Polkadot Builder Party begins on October 6, 2025. At the Web3 Foundation, we support the development of open, permissionless technologies that serve users around the world. As part of this mission, we are supporting the Builder Party, a global event designed to introduce new developers to the Polkadot ecosystem. The Builder Party is a six-week event that combines a global online hackathon, community meetups, and a collaborative campaign. Participants will focus on building practical, open applications that showcase the capabilities of Polkadot 2.0, parachains, and the broader ecosystem. Over six weeks, builders will take part in: - A Global Online Hackathon - Local Meetups allowing builders to connect, collaborate, and share progress - A Community Campaign showcasing innovation across Polkadot 2.0, parachains, and the broader ecosystem The final week aligns with Sub0 in Buenos Aires, connecting online and in-person participants. A harsh reality The Web3 Conference Era is Over (for the most part) There's too many and only a few will survive. Why? It's often the same faces, same projects, same talks - just different locations. The average ROI for most attendees isn't what it was 2-3 years ago. As discussed below, the industry is evolving. More people from different professional backgrounds are joining or looking to join the space, a different 'more localized' approach is needed. More frequent 'campfire' events are the way forward where 'event friends' become actual friends i.e. meet-ups, bootcamps, social events, hackathons, educational seminars And turning hackathon projects into actual companies Below is an excellent article and a refreshingly honest presentation from Paulina Jóśków from the ETHWarsaw team on same https://lnkd.in/eYFQ59CW

I’ve won first place at two hackathons so far, winning a total of $2,700. Here are my tips and tricks for being a serious competitor at any hackathon you enter: 1. If you can submit a demo video, do it. Never consider it optional. The judges want to see a working version of your app, and if it doesn’t work live, you’ll still have proof it worked at some point. If you can, screen share your demo and film yourself too (use something like Loom). The judges also want to see that you’re excited about your project and that you can explain what you’ve built properly. 2. The idea is key. What’s worked for me is thinking big and out of the box. From my experience, most people are going to build a B2B SaaS (which is completely fine, plenty of people win that way) but if you can stand out based on your idea, you’ll give yourself a big leg up. If you can deliver on a big idea, it’s much more impressive than delivering on a small one. 3. Pay attention to what the judges want to see. At one hackathon I won, the judges held a fireside where they discussed how they would judge the submissions. Most people left and started working elsewhere throughout the building. I stayed, listened, and built my project according to how it was stated it would be judged. The judges also dropped a lot of really great insights in general, so I was happy I stayed regardless. 4. Pay attention to the theme. See if you can interpret it in a way that everyone else might be missing. At my last winning hackathon, whenever I told people about my idea, I could tell they were a little apprehensive. In the end, I was one of the only people who followed the theme in the way I’d interpreted it, which I think helped me stand out. 5. I also really think the key to making the most of hackathons is to have fun. And (this something I’ve decently bad at because I’m honestly pretty shy), introduce yourself to the other hackathon participants! Don’t approach them from the perspective of wanting something from them, just be eager to make a new friend. You all already have something in common, so why not?

🚀 Thinking of joining a hackathon soon? Winning isn’t just about coding the fastest, it’s about preparation, teamwork, and storytelling. I recently came across an amazing resource: A Winner’s Guide to Hackathons: From Prep to Prototype: https://lnkd.in/dZYUnAym Here are my key takeaways: >>Preparation is everything; know the theme & judging criteria >> Build a strong, balanced team (developers, designers, business minds) >> Focus on an MVP; solve one real problem well >> Presentation matters; tell a clear story of problem → solution → impact >> Time management; plan phases and track progress Hackathons are not just competitions, they’re opportunities to learn, network, and innovate. Whether you win or not, you walk away with skills, connections, and ideas that can grow into real solutions. 💡 If you’re planning to join one, this guide is a must-watch! #NASASPACEAPPSLIRA

I’m in San Francisco for TECH WEEK by a16z — where the energy is electric, the ideas are bold, and the people are literally changing the world. From AI DJ'd dance parties by Dean Ludgate, to rooftop freestyles overlooking the city — this week has already been unforgettable. One of the kickoff events took place at the penthouse of Club at Amador, previously the historic Bank of Italy (which later became Bank of America). Fitting, because that bank pioneered inclusive finance — serving women and underserved communities long before it was popular. And now, this next generation is doing the same — pioneering a future most couldn’t imagine until it’s here. 🔥 Meet a couple of the visionaries who're setting the tone for Tech Week: Mickey the Happy — bringing contagious energy and connections. Arun Saigal — dropped a rooftop freestyle using words shouted by the crowd. This may be how Tech Week starts… …but it never ends — it only gets better. That’s innovation. Never content. Always evolving. That’s what this is all about.
