Why do global companies invest in startups? In 2023, we launched Kormotech Ventures – an internal venture division focused on investing in startups, particularly in the pet care industry. Here’s why we did it: 🔹 To remain fast and innovative Kormotech now employs over 1,500 people, operates three factories (4th is under construction), and sells its products to 50+ countries. With a global company, the focus is often on steady growth and maintaining market positions. However, I believe that no matter the size of the business, it’s crucial to experiment, test ideas, and bring innovations to life. Collaborating with startups provides this opportunity. 🔹 To develop products that will be groundbreaking in the industry Every innovation starts as a niche idea, but those who take the first steps help shape the direction of the entire industry. By investing in startups, we not only track emerging trends but also have the chance to influence them. 🔹 To enhance the company with fresh talent In 2023, we acquired a controlling stake in the startup ROCKETO, which produces organic dog food. Kormotech took over its management to help take the startup to the next level. In the future, teams from the projects we invest in might become part of the company, just like Rocketo. This is an opportunity to bring in people with new perspectives and creative ideas. Although Kormotech is a global company, I treat its growth the same way I would a startup. It’s about mindset: the constant search for new opportunities and the belief that the best is yet to come, even when it feels like you’ve reached the peak. This mindset allows us to remain adaptable and ready to embrace change, no matter the size of the company.
