Today is my last day at Microsoft After 4 years, it's time to move on. It's not you, it's me :) Seriously, Microsoft is a great company and it's really hard to leave it. The scale is massive and although things take time to happen, smart and motivated people can shine and eventually make great impact. ("Impact" is an overused term in Microsoft but at the end of the day it is well measured and pretty effective) My main impact is that Microsoft now has a P2P powerhouse, called Microsoft eCDN. The eCDN is enabled by default in Teams so large events (Townhall) use it and it reduces the load on the customer's network. I'm so proud that the biggest companies in the world use this WebRTC based software that Guy Paskar, Shachar Zohar and I started in the basement 13 years ago as Peer5. It looks crazy now, but a large portion of the code served sketchy customers back when we chased every customer (even if they paid in Bitcoin). From file sharing to music to sports streaming, Peer5 tried it all and were kinda lucky to meet SAP's Aidan! as a first enterprise customer that needed reliable internal live events. I really have to thank my incredible co-founders Guy and Shachar, that stayed strong and were able to capture that opportunity. A huge, huge thank you to Shahar Chucky and Elbar. You guys! No ego, staying positive, believing in us all these years and contributing so much to the success of the team. Toda to my main man, David Nguyen!! for working so hard, picking up everything and leading the charge at Microsoft. I couldn't have done it without you. Piro and Julian — even though you were not in the traveling phase of Peer5, I think you were there for the most meaningful time :) To all my Microsoft friends, past and present: thank you. Thank you Mu Han, for believing in us. You took the risk on 8 mostly young, mostly Israeli people to deliver a big promise against bigger competitors. Thank you Bindu Thind and Tin Qian for rooting for us all these years, and helping us navigate the corp's deep waters. I learned a lot from you, Bindu — thank you! Thank you Nitzan, Noy, Noam, my roommates, my lunchmates — I'll miss you! Thanks Diego, Vinod, Keerthi, Rajat, Mansoor, Preethi, Siunie, Ben, Tim Milligan, Mahendra and to my mentor at Microsoft, Eran Yariv — it was a privilege! What’s next? It feels like the best time in history to imagine, create, and build. I want to play with AI and learn by doing — building products that bring value directly to people. I'm drawn to consumer experiences, gaming, maybe even helping kids learn — we’ll see where curiosity leads. For now, I’m taking a step back to recharge, reflect, and grow a few side projects. If you’re building something exciting or just want to exchange ideas — reach out 🚀
I think I've known you for about 11 of those 13 years, Hadar Weiss, and it was a joy to ride alongside for a few of them, too. What a fantastic journey you've had.
I wish you all the best in your next chapter ...I am sure you'll continue finding ways to be innovative! Working with you and the team was a high-water mark for me with many fond memories ...we certainly accomplished a lot together. 💪
I’ll always remember the first demo in November 2012 at th 2nd WebRTC Meetup https://meetu.ps/e/dlPv6/5ZJdq/i You must have been so proud when you saw Peer5 deployed at the scale of Microsoft! Don’t take too much time off the grid Hadar, the AI trainis moving at Godspeed!
Good luck Hadar, I had the pleasure to work with you when peer5 was a relatively young startup and you guys made it happen!! All the best in future!
Bravo Hadar! WebRTC rules! Well deserved break. Mazel Tov!
good luck with whatever comes next Hadar Weiss
What journey. Good luck on your next chapter Hadar Weiss!
It was a pleasure working with you, Hadar Weiss, and the team—supporting the product and its customers from its final chapter as Peer5 through its acquisition in 2021 where it became Microsoft eCDN. I hope our paths cross again someday. Wishing you exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling adventures ahead.
Hadar Weiss what a great ride. Proud to have met you early on. All the best.
What a journey ❤️ From hacking Peer5 in our tiny apartments to seeing it power Microsoft Teams globally and used by so many F500 - it’s been incredible to share it all with you. Excited to see where your next adventure leads and hopeful we’ll get to build together again one day!
