Wilfrid Laurier student Tamar Barth studies coronavirus treatment

#STEMatLaurier: Tamar Barth, a fourth-year Wilfrid Laurier University Health Sciences student, is studying how to treat human coronavirus using the body's immune system. 🔬 “For my research project, we are adding the same lab-made dsRNA to human lung cells to measure how it affects the virus’s nucleocapsid protein, which is crucial for coronavirus to replicate,” says Barth. “Our goal is to provide further evidence of how the RNA interference pathway targets human coronavirus.” She is inspired by her supervisor, Professor Stephanie DeWitte-Orr, and wants to work in health care someday to make a difference in people's lives.
