Health center leaders: when did you last reflect on how you managed the Medicaid unwinding process that followed the period of temporarily expanded coverage during the Covid-19 pandemic? Joe Dunn, Chief Policy Officer at National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) recently suggested that looking back at that time could offer some useful insights and practical ideas for how to best move forward in this environment. Specifically, Joe mentions asking yourself: ➡️ What did you do during the massive redetermination process that happened just a few years ago? ➡️ Are there relationships you developed with health plans that you can now revisit? ➡️ Did you forge connections with Medicaid agencies in your state where you can now circle back and begin dialogue about how you can work together - and how you can be an asset for them as they’re struggling, too? ➡️ Are there community based organizations that serve a similar population where we could find ways to share resources? ✨ These are tips that CHC leaders can begin implementing right away. 🔗 Listen to the clip to hear more from Joe and find more resources at https://lnkd.in/eBgAW6_c #Medicaid #Medicaidcuts #CHC #FQHC #communityhealth #healthcenters #bigbeautifulbill #populationhealth

While compiling the next Health Policy Shop Update, I came across an interesting item that highlights the fiscal challenges states will face as they implement the Medicaid provisions of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Florida’s Deputy Secretary for Medicaid presented an overview of the OBBBA to the Florida House of Representative’s Health Care Facilities & Systems Subcommittee. A slide on the fiscal impact of the OBBBA’s cap on State Directed Payments (SDPs) read, “By the time of the full implementation of reductions of SDP to 110%, the overall decrease to Florida’s SDP programs will be $3,838,653,192.” The slide attached to this post shows the programs that will be impacted. The Health Policy Shop Update provides insight on health policy discussions in the states, with a focus on state Medicaid budgets. To subscribe to the update, visit healthpolicyshop.com
