John Cockerill and Axens launch the NesaBTF™ torrefaction technology, a pretreatment solution for the renewable fuel chain BioTfueL® process developed by BioNext, a consortium between Axens, Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, IFP Energies nouvelles, Avril, TotalEnergies, and thyssenkrupp Uhde. The #BioTfueL® process converts lignocellulosic biomass into fuels, such as sustainable aviation fuels. The #NesaBTF™ torrefaction technology leverages John Cockerill's expertise in Multiple Hearth Furnaces (#MHF) and Axens' operational insights, enabling large-scale torrefaction of residues for optimal BioTfueL® feedstock. The versatility of NesaBTF™ enhances projects profitability through economies of scale. The collaboration between John Cockerill and Axens into the SAF developing market will contribute to the energy transition. I am delighted by this collaboration with Axens and BioNext consortium partners to deliver integrated Sustainable Aviation Fuel (#SAF) solutions from biomass residues. With this new Multiple Hearth Furnace (#MHF) generation, we densify the energy of biomass by torrefaction into stable bio-coals, which will be further processed through gasification then Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The MHF design is extremely robust and easily scalable, with a versatility that allows to address a wide range of biomass residues, while guaranteeing a homogeneous and optimized product for the gazifier. 🌍 World’s largest SOEC electrolyzer started up at Neste’s Rotterdam Refinery! A major step for clean hydrogen in Europe: the MultiPLHY project has successfully launched the world’s largest high-temperature electrolyzer (2.6 MW SOEC) in an industrial setting at Neste’s refinery in Rotterdam. More good news from my company, Topsoe - the e-fuels for the future are (almost) ready 🌍⚡ Topsoe together with Sasol have signed a cooperation agreement with DLR to start research and development (R&D) activities for the demonstration plant. The demonstration plant is currently under construction and expects to produce 2,500 tons of e-fuels per year, mainly comprising SAF 🚀 DLR expects the plant to start operating in Q4 2027. Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) has launched a floating, off-grid platform that converts wind power, seawater, and ambient air into synthetic fuels. The system integrates direct air capture, seawater desalination, high-temperature electrolysis, and a Fischer-Tropsch process to turn green hydrogen + CO₂ into fuels. Key points: - The modular facility will begin testing in Bremerhaven, then move offshore near Helgoland.  - It is part of Germany’s H2Mare hydrogen flagship project, focused on producing derivatives such as methanol, ammonia, and liquid methane.  - The system operates without grid connection and is built to handle changing offshore wind conditions, seawater use, and marine operational challenges. 🚀 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗛𝗧 ⚡🌱 A.H.T. Syngas Technology N.V., together with our partners Bionon UG and Bioenergy Concept GmbH, has secured a patent for producing hydrogen from solid biomass through thermal gasification in a fixed bed reactor.   This achievement is the result of years of development and over €2 million invested. Independent validation by EY-Parthenon and TÜV SÜD confirmed both the technical feasibility and economic strength of our projects, with expected margins of 13–19% on an investment of about €54 million.   Our first project site in northern Germany is planned for 2026, with market ready hydrogen production in 2028. This milestone advances the hydrogen economy in Germany and Europe by delivering CO₂-neutral, decentralized energy solutions for industry, mobility, and heating.   And this is just the beginning for all of us! We expect more projects to follow as countries look to scale hydrogen infrastructure and invest in contracting models.
