2020: The Year of Change and Virtual Connection

2020: The Year of Change and Virtual Connection

If there’s one thing I know for certain at the end of 2020 it’s that people are hungry for connection. Nearly 75 million attendees registered for more than one million virtual events on Eventbrite and logged over 100 million hours this year.

What do all those numbers mean? In spite of having to stay home, people danced, learned how to cook, and explored new hobbies. People virtually explored museums and toured cities. We all still connected with the world — just in a different way. While nothing can replace the experience of live events, virtual events have proven to be a surprisingly delightful substitute.

Perhaps the silver lining of this pandemic is that the world got a little closer: Online events have the power to globally engage communities in new ways, helping creators bring people together from small town America to far reaching corners of the world. That’s something to celebrate as we continue to work toward the safe return of in-person events.

2020 was an eventful year to be online. For more information, check out Eventbrite’s Inside Look Report that shares a deep dive into our 2020 data and findings.
