The active world is unique
The active world is a living eco-system of activities, places, experiences, lifestyles and moments, bound together by the journeys that the world’s participants take through it.
The active world is continually growing and evolving as participants continue their journey throughout it. Even in lockdown we have seen a boom in the numbers out running, cycling and paddling along our rivers and canals; an ONS study found that in March and April 2020, every adult in the UK did thirty minutes more exercise every week compared with 2014/15. These are new people starting their journey through the active world and lapsed participants re-finding their love of it.
The power of the active world is that the participants:

• choose to engage in the experience, in the training, in the content.
• are active and receptive.
• will willingly provide data about themselves if it will improve their experience.
The journeys the participants take are life changing, long-term behavioural changes. They have a lasting positive impact on their physical and mental well-being and on the society around them. The size of this highly engaged population is often under-estimated, according to Sport England, 63% of England exercise for more than 150 minutes every week.
All of these journeys are brushed with brand and sponsorship messaging, with only a few non-endemic brands, such as Volvo’s partnership with multi-sport, becoming a living breathing part of the eco-system. An opportunity is there to be grasped.
