CIMPLICITY Hidden Gems: System Sentry
The human body is a sophisticated system that alerts us to illness through various symptoms. To uncover the root cause, doctors perform diagnostic tests and scans – often determining whether treatment succeeds or the illness becomes critical.
The same is true for a plant SCADA system. When bottlenecks arise, you may see the “symptoms” in the form of slow performance – or in the worst case, a complete system stoppage. What if you had an in-built monitoring agent within your SCADA system to watch for issues and alert you before a failure occurs, saving both time and money?
That’s exactly what CIMPLICITY System Sentry delivers. As a system administrator, you no longer have to cross your fingers and hope your system avoids overloads. System Sentry provides valuable performance data for every resource in your system – from available hard drive space, CPU usage, and free memory, to the total number of alarms generated since your CIMPLICITY project began.
With System Sentry, you get:
By activating System Sentry, you gain flexible access to detailed performance data from multiple counters across your system. The result is a more reliable, hassle-free way to manage and maintain your SCADA applications.
Did You Know? iFIX Upgrades Are Even Faster with Version 2024
“If it ain’t broke, why tinker?”
Upgrading a SCADA system is typically seen as a major undertaking – and for good reason. But in recent years, more customers are asking how they can keep their SCADA systems up to date. Whether it's to meet evolving cybersecurity regulations, align with broader tech investments, or prepare for AI-driven operations, many plants are now prioritizing regular SCADA updates.
With that in mind, our iFIX engineering team set out to make upgrades faster and easier. While iFIX has long supported upgradability from any previous version of FIX or iFIX, the team dug into customer pain points to identify opportunities for streamlining the process.
One major improvement in iFIX v2024 is a revamped Backup and Restore Utility that simplifies cross-version upgrades. This updated tool can now restore backups from any version of iFIX as far back as v5.8 into a new v2024 instance. Once restored, the iFIX startup process automatically resolves the database, pictures, and application files to match the latest version—reducing complexity and saving valuable time for integrators.
This enhancement is just one way we’re making it easier to stay current and get more from your SCADA system – today and in the future.
