Cybersecurity is fundamental to the future for Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing

Industry 4.0 capabilities are accepted to be key in boosting productivity for A&D manufacturers, and the 2018 Made Smarter review identified Aerospace as the UK manufacturing sector that would benefit the most from adoption. However, supply chain adoption remains relatively low compared to other manufacturing sectors.

One of the main reasons cited for companies not adopting more readily is the potential cyber risk introduced by connectivity technology that’s at the heart of industry 4.0.

Hear from leading industry and Government experts on the real scale of the cyber threats, learn about the range of tools, approaches and practices that are available, and listen to practical case studies of successful implementation from the manufacturing supply chain. https://www.adsgroup.org.uk/events-list/cyber-security-in-aerospace-defence-manufacturing-march-2020/

A 2016 AvWeek survey found that only 40% of A&D companies had comprehensive security strategies. Even those that do, remain susceptible to substantial cyber attacks – there are numerous accounts in the public domain about successful and thwarted cyber attacks in A&D. User data, intellectual property and even passenger safety are vulnerable to attack.

A 2018 survey of 20,000 UK manufacturers found that nearly half had suffered a cyber attack and nearly a quarter had sustained considerable financial or business loss as a result. Today, it is estimated that manufacturing is the third most attacked sector in the UK. It’s no wonder that around a third of businesses remain reluctant to adopt Industry 4.0 practices due to the cyber threat, and almost half of business don’t feel they have the tools to ensure cyber security. Increasingly, manufacturers are being asked to demonstrate their cyber credentials by customers

It is only a matter if time before cyber security capability will be a competitive differentiator in securing business in digitally connected A&D supply networks.

For those companies in the A&D supply chain looking to join the Fourth Industrial Revolution, this event will prove invaluable in learning about how to adopt Industrial Digital Technologies (IDTs) in way that is secure by design.
