Data Democratisation and Empowerment during Covid Times

Last night the North of England (where I live) implemented stricter Covid Controls. With just 2 hours notice we can no longer have people round to our houses or gardens. If we want to go to the pub or restaurant it is permissible with just with our immediate family. This impacts the many and various socially distanced plans we all had and not particularly good for those celebrating Eid celebrations today.

I do not necessarily disagree with the actions taken, however we could have had clearer and earlier visibility into the developing storm.

Why can't the government and authorities apply the same methods we use in business for Process Improvement? Data Democratisation, Empowerment, Insights to Action and Organisational Continuous Improvement?

Call to action

  • Data Democratisation - make the statistics available to everyone, make them easy to understand, with ability to drill down into your local area and ensure everyone has the same view and understanding of the pandemic.
  • Empowerment - sharing the statistics gives us the ability to understand trends and Covid hotspots. This will enable us to to make the right decisions and keep infections down. Government can only do so much and needs to trust us to make the right decisions.

By applying these techniques and giving us the insights we will all take the right actions to mitigate the pandemic and save lives.
