Employee Spotlight: Shine Saini

Employee Spotlight: Shine Saini

Shine joined the bet365 Operations Management Graduate Programme in January 2024. Now working as a Business Analyst within Workforce Management, she reflects on her journey so far.

Q: Can you tell us about your time at university and what led you to apply for our Graduate Programme?

My time at university was an amazing period of growth both academically and personally. I studied BSc Psychology at University of Birmingham, which gave me a deep insight into human behaviour and how it can be applied in real-world settings.

I was then able to go put this into practice, spending a year studying in Malaysia. Here, I focused on International Organisational Psychology. This opportunity came with the perks of being able to travel across many South Asian countries and experience a variety of different cultures. This really broadened my perspective and shaped how I approach challenges.

This experience confirmed that I wanted to work in a large international company where I could make a meaningful impact and combine my passion for understanding human behaviour and business. I came across the Graduate Programme at bet365 and saw it as the great opportunity to combine the two. As I looked further, I was drawn to the fact that I could apply my skills to more than a team, as the programme offered rotations across various departments. This structure allowed me to apply my skills and find my niche while building a strong foundation in corporate operations.

Q: How did you find relocating to the area, and what support did you receive?

Relocating was a big step, especially since the city felt quite different from what I am used to. However, having previously travelled and lived abroad as well as the guidance from the company, I was comfortable adapting to the new environment. The support from the company made a huge difference – from help with housing and organising social events, to making it easy to connect with others who were also relocating.

Q: What has been the most surprising aspect of the Graduate Programme for you?

One of the most surprising parts of the Graduate Programme was how quickly the time went. While you are on it, it’s easy to be focused on progressing to the next stage – but once you reach the end, looking back at how much you’ve grown, the experience is genuinely surreal.

What also stood out was the level of responsibility you are given so early on. I was trusted to make important decisions, lead others and take ownership of peoples’ development and performance.

Q: Can you describe a typical day in your role within the programme?

A typical day really depends on which stage of the rotation you are. The first 3 months focused on building essential customer service skills and gaining a solid understanding of the business. After that, the pace picks up as the responsibilities increase significantly.

During my time, I helped develop my team and go from strength to strength. I led meetings and coaching sessions as well as completing performance reviews. In the Responsible Gambling Department, I analysed customer patterns, conducted calls with customers and created reports to support data-driven decisions.

Q: What skills or knowledge have you gained during your time in the programme that you find particularly valuable?

I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of the critical roles played by departments such as fraud, verification or even training in any company. I’ve been able to see the whole picture and understand how different departments interconnect to drive success at bet365. Alongside this, I have developed key softer skills like stakeholder management, effective communication and adaptability. These are skills I know will be invaluable throughout my career.

Q: If you could give advice to your past self before starting this programme, what would it be?

I’d tell myself to make the most of the development meetings with my team and understand its importance. They’re not just a check-in or performance reviews, they’re a chance to build trust, support and help others grow. Taking ownership of someone else’s development teaches you a lot about leadership and accountability.

Additionally, to never underestimate the power of networking. Building genuine connection during the rotation is key – those relationships can offer support, insight and opportunities in ways you may not expect down the line. As future leaders, nurturing these relationships early on is key.

Q: What were your initial expectations of the Graduate Programme, and how do they compare to your actual experience?

I anticipated a strong learning experience with valuable exposure to each department within the business. However, it has turned out to be far more immersive than expected. The level of depth I have received in each area has been insightful. Moreover, the support network, mentorship and variety of opportunities have exceeded my expectations.

Q: What has been your biggest achievement so far in the programme, and how did it make you feel?

The programme is designed to help people explore different areas and departments, while also allowing the company to assess skills and understand how these can be best strengthened.

I was fortunate to go beyond the initial department options, as I had a clear vision of the type of role I wanted, and we agreed that my skills can be used elsewhere. The company excelled in identifying a position that perfectly blends analytical and interpersonal work.

In my current Workforce Planning role, I lead projects and facilitate both internal and external meetings, ensuring that people management across the organisation is not only effective but aligned with the needs of both the workforce and the organisation.

I have just led the rollout of a new feature for employee management, designed to improve flexibility and give employees more control over their time. The project involved collaboration with departmental heads, tool experts and cross-functional teams. I am proud to have played a key role in improving operational efficiency, benefiting both the employees and employers.

Q: What have you learned about yourself during this journey that you didn’t know before?

I have discovered that I’m more adaptable and resilient than I initially thought. The programme has pushed me to take on new challenges, whether it’s leading projects or navigating different departments. I’ve realised how much I thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments. I’ve also realised how valuable it is to maintain a strong focus on continuous improvement – whether it’s refining processes or driving efficiency, there is always something better we can be doing. I’ve become more confident in my ability to make an impact on any areas I am involved in.

Q: As you approach the end of the programme, what are your hopes for the future?

Coming to the end of the programme, my hopes are centred around continuous growth both professionally and personally. I aim to find new opportunities within niche areas to create meaningful impact. I am passionate about implementing change, whether it’s a product, process or strategy, and taking it from the ground up.

Professionally, I aim to take on more leadership responsibilities in innovative areas and continue to initiate ideas, developing and launching tools that add real value. Personally, I am excited to keep pushing boundaries and sharpening my skills to stay curious as I carve out a path that is both impactful and fulfilling.
