Five watch trends I predict for 2025

Five watch trends I predict for 2025

Here’s what to ‘watch’ out for.

Revival of classic designs

As nostalgia looks set to continue to saturate culture the watch industry will likely experience a renaissance of classic designs. In 2025, I foresee a resurgence in the popularity of iconic vintage models, with more brands launching reissues and modern interpretations of timeless pieces. Savvy brands will honour their history while innovatively incorporating modern technology to appeal to both seasoned collectors and new enthusiasts alike.

Sustainability and ethical production get serious

I think sustainability will transition from a buzzword to a fundamental principle with more watch brands prioritising ‘green’ practices, utilising recycled materials and conflict free gemstones. Brands have grasped that genuine sustainability resonates with modern consumers who are becoming more conscious of their purchases. The commitment to ethical production will also manifest in the choice of materials, with innovative alternatives emerging to replace traditional resources such as vegan leathers and lab-grown diamonds.

Further integration of advanced technology

We’ll surely see the integration of technology into traditional watchmaking reach new heights in 2025. Hybrid watches that blend analog aesthetics with digital capabilities are on the rise, offering consumers the best of both worlds. These timepieces feature innovative functionalities such as fitness tracking, smart notifications, and customisable faces, all while retaining the elegance and craftsmanship of classic mechanical watches. As brands invest in R&D, I anticipate we will see a host of features that enhance the user experience without overshadowing the artistry of traditional watchmaking.

Increased personalisation and customisation

Personalisation in luxury watches has been quite big for a couple of years, and I predict that in 2025 customers will have access to an even wider array of choices to customise their timepieces – from unique dials and materials to personalised engravings and bespoke features. This trend empowers consumers to express their individuality and create pieces that resonate with their personal stories. It’s very Gen Z.

Smart-luxury hybrid timepieces

Finally, the emergence of smart-luxury hybrid timepieces will take off in a big way. This new generation of sophisticated watches will merge the reliability and craftsmanship of traditional luxury watches with the advanced features of smart technology. The ability to monitor health metrics, receive notifications, and even control smart home features will be crucial, all while maintaining the elegance and refinement synonymous with luxury. Don’t be surprised to see AI making inroads…
