Global Sustainable Sport to Host Inaugural GSS2025 Workshop Series on Thursday May 22 at 14:00 BST

Global Sustainable Sport will be hosting the inaugural session of the GSS2025 Workshop Series, this week on Thursday, 22 May 2025 at 14:00 BST. The workshop is free to attend for all those working in or interested in sustainability in sport, and want to understand more about sustainability in a sporting context.

The GSS2025 Workshop Series is part of the wider GSS2025 campaign, which aims to drive awareness, share best practice, and provide practical tools and insights to help sports organisations become more sustainable. Each month, the series will feature interactive sessions with leading experts, innovators, and practitioners from across the global sport ecosystem.

The inaugural workshop, titled "Getting Started with Sustainability in Sport", is being run in collaboration with 3R Sustainability and Kraft Sports + Entertainment, and will bring together expert insights from both organisations. Speakers include Jana Lake, President at 3R Sustainability, Gina MacIlwraith, Sustainability, Assurance & Management Systems at 3R Sustainability and Dena Ciampa, Energy, Water & Waste Administrator at Kraft Sports + Entertainment.

The session will explore ISO 20121 and will demystify the international standard certification process, including gap assessments, planning, stakeholder engagement, and audits, and highlight real-world success stories. The session will also introduce the GSS Sustainable Pillars framework and explore practical first steps that sports organisations can take to begin or accelerate their sustainability journey. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in open discussion and Q&A with the speakers.

The GSS2025 Workshop Series is closely linked to the GSS Education Programme, a growing educational initiative from Global Sustainable Sport that aims to help individuals and organisations better understand sustainability in a sporting context. The education programme provides accessible learning pathways, resources, and tools to build capacity and drive meaningful change across all levels of sport. Together, the workshop and education streams are designed to empower the sports community with the knowledge and skills needed to take informed and impactful action.

Mike Laflin, CEO and Founder of Global Sustainable Sport, said:

“We are excited to launch the GSS2025 Workshop Series and to provide an open and collaborative space where people from all corners of the sports world can come together to learn, share, and accelerate progress on sustainability. We are delighted to be working with 3R Sustainability and Kraft Sports + Entertainment for this inaugural workshop as we look to advance the understanding of what sustainability is in a sporting context.”

Participants are encouraged to register in advance via the GSS website and will also be invited to learn more about the GSS Network, a growing platform of organisations committed to driving sustainability in sport. Subscribing to the GSS Network provides access to additional insights, resources, and support throughout the GSS2025 campaign and beyond.
