Itihaasa research reports

itihaasa Research and Digital, a not-for-profit that I have founded, is researching two domains of strategic importance to India (1) Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) and (2) Brain Science. 

itihaasa has launched two reports that study the Indian research landscape in AI/ML and Brain Science. You can download the reports here. These reports are unique and focus on the research ecosystem - the engine of national innovation. Both these reports are based on primary research conducted by itihaasa.

I believe that the landscape studies of AI/ML and Brain Science research in India have identified important focus areas for basic research and translational research. They can spark a dialog among researchers, policy makers, industry, and philanthropists in India. They fit in well with the strategy proposed by the Government of India and expand on one important aspect of that strategy – nurturing the research ecosystem in India.

The key recommendations for strengthening AI/ML research in India are:

· Increase the number of students for AI/ML research in India

· Augment computing infrastructure for AI/ML research

· Create India-specific AI/ML challenges, tools and data-sets

· Set up multi-disciplinary AI/ML Centers of Excellence

· Adopt an AI/ML Grand Challenges approach

· Link institutional mechanisms to start-up ecosystem to translate AI/ML research to market applications
