Learn, unlearn, and re-learn.
Be adaptable in the new normal world. Learn, unlearn, and re-learn
What drives a company’s success today? Essentially, a company’s ability to learn faster than its rivals may be its only sustainable competitive advantage.
Given the impact of covid, the pace of change in business conditions today is surely remarkable and likely to fast-track from here. The idea of rapid change is a double-edged sword—both a threat and an opportunity. With the ability to be flexible and adapt to quick change better than your competitors, you can make huge strides. However, learning alone is not enough. To be successful, you must support your team to master the “learn, unlearn, re-learn” cycle of success.
Because in a rapidly changing world, unlearning and re-learning are just as important as learning. It is no longer about constant, acquisitive learning. However, learning, unlearning and re-learning should not be viewed as a means to an end but as an end itself. During this cycle, all sources of resistance to change ought to be recognized and people’s emotions validated.
Throughout the cycle of unlearning and learning again, indeed there are numerous types of unlearning and re-learning, where some are easier than others. It is comparatively easier to abandon outdated knowledge, but much harder to give up bad habits and behaviors. Perhaps, it is most difficult to unlearn and re-learn our sense of individuality.
Personally, I feel these are some approaches which help one to embrace the “learn, unlearn and re-learn” cycle of success:
1. Be acquainted with the idea of unlearning and re-learning
2. Highlight the significance of discarding what is no longer true or relevant
3. Make sure you are updated with the knowledge that is relevant to your success
4. Practice ‘trend watch’ and have foresight
5. Re-assess your skills and ensure that they are ‘future-proofed’
6. Cultivate the idea of growth mindset
7. Use self-assessment tools to develop your self-awareness before changes can happen
Now, share it with your team. Let us grow as one in this new normal world!
