Purpose of Monitoring Marina Bay Sands Hotel

An ambitiously built structure, Marina Bay Sands was one of the most challenging construction projects in the world due to the architectural design and soil conditions. It is an engineering marvel consisting of three towers 200 m above the sea and a skypark that spans from tower to tower and cantilevers 65m beyond.

The complex curvature of the towers, excavating six levels into the water table in highly unstable landfill, retaining the water and soil pressure while foundation and basement levels were constructed were few of the construction challenges. The Marina Bay area had undergone several reclamation phases.

Sharing an anecdote, during my Leica Geosystems stint, I worked very closely for two large projects - The World Towers (the tallest residential tower in the world) and Bandra Worli Sea Link (the longest cable-stayed bridge) where Leica provided solutions. Leica equipments were used for precise surveying and monitoring (during and post construction). The memories are afresh of the hardwork, and dedication involved during its initial, during and post construction phases.
