Mobile Technology Evolution

According to GSMA, 5G is projected to surpass 4G in 2029, becoming the dominant mobile technology by the end of this decade.

📃 5G Adoption Trends: The adoption of 5G is on the rise due to the proliferation of new network deployments and the availability of cheaper devices. As of January 2023, there were 229 commercial 5G networks worldwide. Moreover, the market witnessed the launch of over 700 5G smartphone models, with more than 200 introduced in 2022 alone.

📃 Legacy Network Decline: The number of connections on legacy networks such as 2G and 3G is expected to decline steadily in the coming years as users transition to 4G and 5G technologies. This transition will lead to an increase in network shutdowns. Currently, operators have announced plans to decommission 96 2G networks and 107 3G networks globally.
